Different City Smart City Conference, the 1st International Conference on smart cities,
took place on 3-4 November 2016 in Bucharest.

The event gathered contributors and participants from many European countries and a large number of participants from Romania.


The main objective of the Conference was to encourage research, discussion, exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience on smart strategies, products and services.


The 'boutique' style of the conference was ideal for promoting networking and building partnerships among the participating organizations, to take advantage of the enormous funding opportunities to be seized through EU initiatives and smart city programs.


The event was successful and provided excellent impetus and practical networking opportunities towards this goal.

"Different City - Smart City" Conference - Committee Meeting.

The Conference Organizing Committee met in Bucharest Thursday 15/9 and Friday 16/9 to monitor progress of the conference activities and plan.

Following the brainstorming session, members of the committee visited existing and prospective participating organizations, sponsors, supporters and exhibitors. Based on the discussions and the valuable suggestions and proposals from the involved organizations, a number of decisions were taken to improve the conference organization plan, including the sponsored Networking Dinner to take place after the closing of Day 1 on the 3rd of November at Novotel, the venue hotel.

​The participating members of the Committee - Marius Hanganu, Eduard Dimitriev, Zenica Turza, Ionut Comsa and Chrysses Nicolaides, close the session in a working lunch at Trattoria Buongiorno, a restaurant near to the Different Angle Cluster offices in Bucharest.

The 1st International Conference and Exhibition 2016 is organized by Different Angle Cluster (DAC),

a member of “Smart Cities Mediterranean Cluster (SMART-MED), in cooperation with the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB), and the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE).


The Conference will take place in NOVOTEL in the city of Bucharest-Romania, 3-4 November 2016 and is focusing on “Innovation and New Technologies in Managing Cities Today and in Planning of the Smart Cities of Tomorrow” and the aim is to bring together city and regional authorities, as well as industry and SMEs stakeholders, academics and professionals in order to present information and ideas for smartness and growth.

We strongly encourage you to submit your paper here. Papers presented in the conference will undergo a peer review process in order to be considered for publication by: the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB), in their MMCE journal which is indexed in International databases, and the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) , in two Open Access Journals indexed in international databases, and published by INFOREC Association with the support of Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation​.
